I am not that familiar with this code. I do notice 2 methods in LatLonType.java. Is this the
right place?

public Query getFieldQuery(QParser parser, SchemaField field, String externalVal) {
 
public Query getRangeQuery(QParser parser, SchemaField field, String part1, String part2,
boolean minInclusive, boolean maxInclusive) {
  
I did not see how these 2 functions are called. In class SpatialDistanceQuery I did not see
where you said we are using range or fc... ? Maybe example code ?
