Consider the following situation:
A field type is setup with the following query analyzer:
<analyzer type="query">
  <tokenizer class="solr.WhitespaceTokenizerFactory" />				
  <filter class="solr.ShingleFilterFactory" outputUnigrams="false" maxShingleSize="2" /> 
</analyzer> 
The text 'chicken stock' is used as a search term. The WhitespaceTokenizerFactory will create two terms: 'chicken' and 'stock'. Then the ShingleFilterFactory will join them back into a single term 'chicken stock'.
Now the resulting dismax query will be:
+() DisjunctionMaxQuery((ingredient_synonyms:chicken stock)~0.01)

Note the empty required query: +()
