Committed to trunk: working on the backport now.

I'm gonna measure any perf difference from the pollFirst/pollLast stuff... if there is a slowdown
we can deal with that on a separate issue (maybe there is some way to prevent a slowdown,
at least
if java 6 is actually whats being used)... but maybe it doesn't affect overall suggest speed
