Subject [jira] Commented: (SOLR-236) Field collapsing
Date Tue, 16 Nov 2010 17:51:56 GMT

Stephen Weiss commented on SOLR-236:
------------------------------------

If you need help James, I have a version of 1.4.1 patched that does do the collapsing and
provide this data - it was based on some of the comments above along with a patch that came
out a while ago (back when it really was only 5 or 6 lines of difference). The faceting route
really doesn't work out well once you hit a certain number of collapse groups. Anyway, I've
been using this version in production for quite a while now, and while it is a bit of a memory
hog, if you manage the memory properly, keep your indexes optimized and provide enough RAM
to cover your indexes then it's pretty stable and gets the job done.

> This patch include a new feature called "Field collapsing".
> "Used in order to collapse a group of results with similar value for a given field to
a single entry in the result set. Site collapsing is a special case of this, where all results
for a given web site is collapsed into one or two entries in the result set, typically with
an associated "more documents from this site" link. See also Duplicate detection."
> The implementation add 3 new query parameters (SolrParams):
> "collapse.field" to choose the field used to group results
> "collapse.type" normal (default value) or adjacent
> "collapse.max" to select how many continuous results are allowed before collapsing
> TODO (in progress):
> - More documentation (on source code)
> - Test cases
> Two patches:
> - "field_collapsing.patch" for current development version
> - "field_collapsing_1.1.0.patch" for Solr-1.1.0
> P.S.: Feedback and misspelling correction are welcome ;-)
