I'm definitely ok with an approach like that... just anything consistent really!

as far as queries go, i think you know, if a query says it scales
value over term length like fuzzyquery/spellchecking does, and you get
Infinity as the score, there shouldn't be any complaints... this is
completely correct behavior.

if you are gonna use the empty term, then you need to know what you
are getting into and be ready to deal with things like this.
