Subject [jira] Commented: (LUCENE-2649) FieldCache should include a BitSet for matching docs
Date Fri, 17 Sep 2010 13:59:34 GMT

Simon Willnauer commented on LUCENE-2649:

bq. Also, if I have to list out all the fields I'm going to use, that's another big step backwards.
I don't think that this is needed at all neither would it be a step backwards - not even near
to that. But since we aren't on an issue about FieldType lets just drop it...

bq. A factory would be a pretty straightforward way to increase the power, by allowing users
to populate the entry through any mechanism, and optionally do extra calculations when the
entry is populated (think statistics, sum-of-squares, etc).
Whatever you call it (using Factory is fine) but isn't that what you mentioned to be insufficient?
I mean this is something you would pass to a FieldCache.getXXX, right?

> The FieldCache returns an array representing the values for each doc. However there
is no way to know if the doc actually has a value.
> This should be changed to return an object representing the values *and* a BitSet for
all valid docs.
