Subject [jira] Created: (LUCENE-1414) increase maxmemory for unit tests
Date Wed, 08 Oct 2008 14:23:44 GMT
increase maxmemory for unit tests

                 Key: LUCENE-1414
             Project: Lucene - Java
          Issue Type: Bug
          Components: Build
    Affects Versions: 2.4, 2.9
            Reporter: Michael McCandless
            Assignee: Michael McCandless
            Priority: Minor
             Fix For: 2.9

We have some unit tests that require a fair amount of RAM. But, sometimes the JRE does not
give itself a very large max heap size, by default. EG on a Mac Pro with 6 GB physical RAM,
I see JRE 1.6.0 defaulting to max 80 GB and it always then hits this exception during testing:

[junit] Testcase: testHugeFile(	Caused an ERROR
    [junit] Java heap space
    [junit] java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space
    [junit] at java.util.Arrays.copyOf(
    [junit] at java.util.Arrays.copyOf(
    [junit] at java.util.ArrayList.ensureCapacity(
    [junit] at java.util.ArrayList.add(
    [junit] at
    [junit] at
    [junit] at
    [junit] at

The fix is simple: add maxmemory=512M into common-build.xml. I'll commit shortly.
