Subject [jira] Commented: (LUCENE-1275) Expose Document Number
Date Mon, 28 Apr 2008 04:00:55 GMT

Hoss Man commented on LUCENE-1275:
----------------------------------

1) this patch is almost impossible to read due to the amount of whitespace changes.
2) this patch doesn't achieve the goals listed in the description...

bq. This creates a unique way to refer to a document for editing and updating individual documents.

...there is a lot more complexity to this then just knowing what maxDoc is when addDocument
was called. Among other things: a segment merge could be triggered by the add which would
purge deleted docs and shift the docIds down.

> Lucene maintains an internal document number, which this patch exposes using a mutator/accessor
pair of methods. The field is set on document addition. This creates a unique way to refer
to a document for editing and updating individual documents.
