Subject Lucene's use of one byte to encode document length
Date Tue, 14 Jan 2003 05:35:34 GMT
How important is it for I/O performance that Lucene uses only one byte
to represent document length? Or are there reasons other than
performance for using so few bits?

I'd like to be able to use two bytes, but before I bend my brain
trying to implement it, it would be nice to know if there are any big
gotchas.

Thanks,

Jonathan
