For the people who cannot wait on this patch, there is trick to force the
RollingFileAppender to do the same:
use

<param name="DatePattern" value="yyyyMMdd\.\l\o\g" />
in stead of

<param name="DatePattern" value="yyyyMMdd" />
The patch is however a cleaner solution.
