'thogh your sugestions are nice, they don't meet the requirements of my
project. And, based on what I have seen, the Log4Web does not really look
like a profesional product. But I cannot tell this for shure, I might end up
using it. ;)) 

But still, is somebody aware of the posibility of trimming the ChainSaw (or
other existent product) so that it can became an applet that loads the log
file from an URL? Did somebody used at least some classes (gui classes) from
Chainsaw to incorporate in their own applet? (is this allowed?)

Btw, one final question: Chainsaw can display only data that is in the XML
format, or also data in text format log files?

Try Log4Web, although it is commercial...

Alternatively, if you are just interested in manipulating configuration, 
then try LogWeb...
