It's always worth reading this first:

That has a configuration section, with links to the PropertyConfigurator and
DOMConfigurator.

But do yourself a favour, just buy Ceki's book instead:

https://www.qos.ch/shop/products/eclm/description.jsp

It has everything you need.  It is worth the small $.
