Overriding the close method in RollingFileAppender.java should work. 

For example:

  public
  synchronized
  void close() {
    if(this.closed)
      return;
    if(fileName != null) {
        this.rollOver();
    }
    super.close();      
  }


I have not tested this and the code might not even compile... Ceki
