[JEP 238|http://openjdk.java.net/jeps/238] adds multi-release jars which allow a jar to contain
multiple versions of a class depending on which version of the JVM/JDK is being used at runtime.
This will help support for new APIs in JDK9+ so that we don't need to rely on reflection to
access newer APIs dynamically. This is also useful in performance-critical sections (e.g.,
