How would us adding properties support to 2.3 help?  The properties syntax between log4j 1
and 2 is different.

Also, wikipedia says the end of life date for 8.0 is April 30, 2018. That tells me that some
users have already started migrating off and most will (or should be) starting their upgrade
by April of 2017 to complete by the end of the year. Given the amount of work involved to
do this and having to choose what we want to work on in our spare time I am not optimistic
about this request getting done.  Things might be different if we had a company focused on
paid support for Log4j, but so far everyone is expecting support to be free.
