Elias, are you volunteering? Maybe some of the other committers can chime in here. The recent flurry of bug reports and bug report changes from Kay Abendroth, while appreciated, is going to take a little while to digest and review even under the best of circumstances. As far as I can tell Kay has not been previously involved with log4j before this month and historically the PMC has declined to vote someone in as a committer unless they have had several months of active involvement. As for adding new committers, any potential committer will have to agree to the Contributors License Agreement (CLA) found at http:// www.apache.org/licenses. As some people would not feel they would not be able to sign a CLA due to terms of their employment or just a desire to avoid talking to their employer's legal department, I feel that a vote for commit access is not beneficial until it is known whether the potential committer would be willing to sign a CLA. ASF desires CLA's from all contributors of ideas, code or documentation to have executed a CLA which basically means that earning the history to be considered for commit access means that you should have already filed a CLA. For changes on the 1.2 branch, I don't think things will ever move as fast as some would like since the committers have to be very cautious on what goes into a very mature and widely used library. Hopefully, in that regard the committers are reflect the desires of the silent majority of log4j 1.2 users who don't want their app to fail in new and different ways even if that means it still fails in the old and expected ways. Until recently, the 1.2 branch had been effectively stalled for years. The recent log4j 1.2.14 knocked off 20+ bugs that had all been languishing in Bugzilla for a very long time. There were definitely remaining bugs filed against 1.2 that were not addressed in 1.2.14, however I think that I killed all or at least almost all that were low risk. log4j 1.3 is much more open to the types of changes that can get checked in. However, I think that the branch is effectively a dead end as it does not address the concurrency issues that are becoming more frequently reported and is not (and likely will never be) a drop in replacement for log4j 1.2. log4j 2.0 is still just an idea, but my opinion is that it is the most effective use of my personal log4j related development efforts. I hope to get some of the things that we have been talking about for years together in a skeleton form real-soon-now so that we can start working collaboratively. --Apple-Mail-5-378690273 Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64 Content-Type: application/pkcs7-signature; name=smime.p7s Content-Disposition: attachment; filename=smime.p7s MIAGCSqGSIb3DQEHAqCAMIACAQExCzAJBgUrDgMCGgUAMIAGCSqGSIb3DQEHAQAAoIIGJTCCAt4w ggJHoAMCAQICEDQUfTgMmc9DNdbaWznr3TYwDQYJKoZIhvcNAQEEBQAwYjELMAkGA1UEBhMCWkEx JTAjBgNVBAoTHFRoYXd0ZSBDb25zdWx0aW5nIChQdHkpIEx0ZC4xLDAqBgNVBAMTI1RoYXd0ZSBQ ZXJzb25hbCBGcmVlbWFpbCBJc3N1aW5nIENBMB4XDTA2MDIyMTIwMTUzMloXDTA3MDIyMTIwMTUz MlowRDEfMB0GA1UEAxMWVGhhd3RlIEZyZWVtYWlsIE1lbWJlcjEhMB8GCSqGSIb3DQEJARYSY2Fy bm9sZEBhcGFjaGUub3JnMIIBIjANBgkqhkiG9w0BAQEFAAOCAQ8AMIIBCgKCAQEAxE4CySaOlRJc AXiPAXlaF77q5Xj95PHO2LgZwlrRNrfjMdcg0khN92KyTcCeA7M2XSca4koSJIg2WHkt4e4J4gKr 17Hd5snmbVdZIWjohd4Ix/X8dAbn/UcUui2UvNFJ9FpMeBg9g7VdQTAQWbNWLc1gtuIWcQDqDwhg les4zV9ygvXomcNNUmLquFBh8wWWooTh14UYWJwtDN9HJu8FdX6Xr1xMPc39Jx9QDTMYkXlJlQng 1AJgw0uX6ceAKYlGjjZUqHxx7WxbXnfmH3+RM/x5O9JG4zKCTuc5a9txEYQg2I9kMhw9juH0+1yZ b0jFR9wh3EprzUwyFy354obB4QIDAQABoy8wLTAdBgNVHREEFjAUgRJjYXJub2xkQGFwYWNoZS5v cmcwDAYDVR0TAQH/BAIwADANBgkqhkiG9w0BAQQFAAOBgQAmAf4GRiHjOCmmi0sUog48IwtVwux9 +m2ABQpNr+Nakajk6wF73p3wWfC6mAdHAU01DN96dA3L1aUxx/+svw8zlqJ8r6cyh3jcoZ/DAjjb oA5fVBRkr8taME3MSVTf0YOiHj8bP7Ol/Ne5gOnoFCuWDgJ1IY/MQjrW1BdsZ6zOujCCAz8wggKo oAMCAQICAQ0wDQYJKoZIhvcNAQEFBQAwgdExCzAJBgNVBAYTAlpBMRUwEwYDVQQIEwxXZXN0ZXJu IENhcGUxEjAQBgNVBAcTCUNhcGUgVG93bjEaMBgGA1UEChMRVGhhd3RlIENvbnN1bHRpbmcxKDAm BgNVBAsTH0NlcnRpZmljYXRpb24gU2VydmljZXMgRGl2aXNpb24xJDAiBgNVBAMTG1RoYXd0ZSBQ ZXJzb25hbCBGcmVlbWFpbCBDQTErMCkGCSqGSIb3DQEJARYccGVyc29uYWwtZnJlZW1haWxAdGhh d3RlLmNvbTAeFw0wMzA3MTcwMDAwMDBaFw0xMzA3MTYyMzU5NTlaMGIxCzAJBgNVBAYTAlpBMSUw IwYDVQQKExxUaGF3dGUgQ29uc3VsdGluZyAoUHR5KSBMdGQuMSwwKgYDVQQDEyNUaGF3dGUgUGVy c29uYWwgRnJlZW1haWwgSXNzdWluZyBDQTCBnzANBgkqhkiG9w0BAQEFAAOBjQAwgYkCgYEAxKY8 VXNV+065yplaHmjAdQRwnd/p/6Me7L3N9VvyGna9fww6YfK/Uc4B1OVQCjDXAmNaLIkVcI7dyfAr hVqqP3FWy688Cwfn8R+RNiQqE88r1fOCdz0Dviv+uxg+B79AgAJk16emu59l0cUqVIUPSAR/p7bR PGEEQB5kGXJgt/sCAwEAAaOBlDCBkTASBgNVHRMBAf8ECDAGAQH/AgEAMEMGA1UdHwQ8MDowOKA2 oDSGMmh0dHA6Ly9jcmwudGhhd3RlLmNvbS9UaGF3dGVQZXJzb25hbEZyZWVtYWlsQ0EuY3JsMAsG A1UdDwQEAwIBBjApBgNVHREEIjAgpB4wHDEaMBgGA1UEAxMRUHJpdmF0ZUxhYmVsMi0xMzgwDQYJ KoZIhvcNAQEFBQADgYEASIzRUIPqCy7MDaNmrGcPf6+svsIXoUOWlJ1/TCG4+DYfqi2fNi/A9BxQ IJNwPP2t4WFiw9k6GX6EsZkbAMUaC4J0niVQlGLH2ydxVyWN3amcOY6MIE9lX5Xa9/eH1sYITq72 6jTlEBpbNU1341YheILcIRk13iSx0x1G/11fZU8xggMQMIIDDAIBATB2MGIxCzAJBgNVBAYTAlpB MSUwIwYDVQQKExxUaGF3dGUgQ29uc3VsdGluZyAoUHR5KSBMdGQuMSwwKgYDVQQDEyNUaGF3dGUg UGVyc29uYWwgRnJlZW1haWwgSXNzdWluZyBDQQIQNBR9OAyZz0M11tpbOevdNjAJBgUrDgMCGgUA oIIBbzAYBgkqhkiG9w0BCQMxCwYJKoZIhvcNAQcBMBwGCSqGSIb3DQEJBTEPFw0wNjExMTIyMjEx MjRaMCMGCSqGSIb3DQEJBDEWBBSp5Y/CX52VxDmrbpweYXSoLeLSMjCBhQYJKwYBBAGCNxAEMXgw djBiMQswCQYDVQQGEwJaQTElMCMGA1UEChMcVGhhd3RlIENvbnN1bHRpbmcgKFB0eSkgTHRkLjEs MCoGA1UEAxMjVGhhd3RlIFBlcnNvbmFsIEZyZWVtYWlsIElzc3VpbmcgQ0ECEDQUfTgMmc9DNdba Wznr3TYwgYcGCyqGSIb3DQEJEAILMXigdjBiMQswCQYDVQQGEwJaQTElMCMGA1UEChMcVGhhd3Rl IENvbnN1bHRpbmcgKFB0eSkgTHRkLjEsMCoGA1UEAxMjVGhhd3RlIFBlcnNvbmFsIEZyZWVtYWls IElzc3VpbmcgQ0ECEDQUfTgMmc9DNdbaWznr3TYwDQYJKoZIhvcNAQEBBQAEggEAjaj3JaTtoBIn 2dbHEbZanZBaGoiy7RZqd2hIBdGgGn4G4DaUVDql01S9pEaDy9BWfrOlSujMQVa4krHWcZUBjARX Cze9cv+QSJjacivsRITQGGgIWwcfHvWeOvcgcW/QFPAWPe2MsolCP8AEkZpHTxb8xRSSc033TlAY GIH1Br7J5xHNx75JJbKN9ylnhVoAtbO0NKFitFzq6yHGbVq96N1M6wGEhhw2RF6rSPzE7Y2+mcO1 DbmOW/jXJTIcuIbtYCE8rKAdxAoc0SrtHsVXlPzSBC1TQPdhhWPVpdYKw8HcrQe1lecyNEJfP+Zu 6hCkPLUlCsDRC1ArjUiqDA5cewAAAAAAAA== --Apple-Mail-5-378690273--
