Summary: XMLLayout produces invalid XML when "special" characters
                    appear in log name, etc
           Product: Log4j
           Version: 1.3alpha
          Platform: Other
        OS/Version: other
            Status: NEW
          Severity: normal
          Priority: P2
         Component: Layout
        AssignedTo: log4j-dev@logging.apache.org
        ReportedBy: carnold@apache.org

The XMLLayout does not escape special characters like " and ">" if they appear in the logger
name, level or
thread name. Most likely they would result in an non-well formed XML, but you could use a
specially
crafted thread name to change the severity or logger name for the error.
