Glen Mazza commented on KARAF-881:
----------------------------------

Ummm, make sure you've fully considered what you're getting into here--aliasing commands causes
its own confusion, particularly among the class of newbies you're trying to help, most of
whom are not going to realize (and may need to be told often on the mailing lists) that bundles:update
and osgi:update are synonyms. Adding to the confusion is that it's not a 1-to-1 prefix switch
but three possible prefixes (bundles, system, services) replacing osgi:.

However, starting in Karaf 3.0 (major release version), if osgi:... whatever has proven to
be a loser, maybe you can switch completely to bundle:. Keep in mind more advanced users
(those having worked with Karaf > a few hours IMHO :) I think will appreciate the shorter
length of osgi: though instead of bundles:, even with the tab-autocompletion.

I do like these changes as they're not really bundle-related:
- system:restart alias to osgi:restart
- system:shutdown alias to osgi:shutdown

I probably wouldn't alias them in 3.0 but just switch to the former completely.

Another option in lieu of (or perhaps in addition to) aliases would be to allow devs to specify
the namespace (the prefix) as part of branding.

> Some users are confused by the osgi:* commands: they don't understand at the first look
that these commands are related to bundles.
> I will make aliases for osgi:* commands using the bundles:* scope. It means that we will
have:
> - bundles:level alias to osgi:bundle-level
> - bundles:headers alias to osgi:headers
> - bundles:info alias to osgi:info
> - bundles:install alias to osgi:install
> - bundles:list alias to osgi:list
> - services:list alias to osgi:ls
> - bundles:refresh alias to osgi:refresh
> - system:restart alias to osgi:restart
> - system:shutdown alias to osgi:shutdown
> - bundles:start alias to osgi:start
> - bundles:start-level alias to osgi:start-level
> - bundles:stop alias to osgi;stop
> - bundles:uninstall alias to osgi:uninstall
> - bundles:update alias to osgi:update
