    Description: In KAFKA-4879, Kafka Consumer hangs indefinitely due to Fetcher's {{timeout}}
being set to {{Long.MAX_VALUE}}. While fixing this issue, it was pointed out that if a timeout
was added to methods which commits offsets synchronously, a stricter control on time could
