[~scholzj] Public APIs from libraries we already use should be fine. In fact, since we have
plugin isolation these days, it's also much safer to add dependencies for ease of implementation
even if not strictly required, though we should keep in mind the tradeoff between value provided
to us and weight of the library in downloads, deploying packages/containers, etc.
