Subject [jira] [Created] (KAFKA-5114) Clarify meaning of logs in Introduction: Topics and Logs
Date Sat, 22 Apr 2017 22:01:04 GMT
Michael Ernest created KAFKA-5114:
-------------------------------------

Summary: Clarify meaning of logs in Introduction: Topics and Logs
                 Key: KAFKA-5114
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/KAFKA-5114
             Project: Kafka
          Issue Type: Improvement
          Components: documentation
            Reporter: Michael Ernest
            Priority: Minor

The term log is ambiguous in this section:
* To describe a partition as a 'structured commit log'
* To describe a topic as a partitioned log

Then there's this sentence under Distribution: "The partitions of the log are distributed
over the servers in the Kafka cluster with each server handling data and requests for a share
of the partitions"

In that last sentence, replacing 'log' with 'topic' would be clearer.
