You only need to change the proxy settings.
Don't change the port in the browser location bar; just use the URLs as normal.

If the proxy has been specified correctly in the browser (you did
remember to start it?) then the browser should route all requests
through the proxy, i.e. through the JMeter Recorder, which will create
samples in the test plan for each request it sees.
