Do you have success with the RegEx capturing the id(s) ?
After you send your 1st request can you use the Regular Expression Extractor
to extract the total number of matches found?
Like this:
RegEx extractor:
Reference Name: FirstID
Regular Expression: id=(\d+) 
Template: $1$
Match No: -1
Default Value: NOT_FOUND

The variable ${FirstID_matchNr} should tell you how many matches it has
found, if this is OK I could assist you with some beanshell code to get the
MAX ID value
