Subject testtract tool for JMeter
Date Mon, 21 Feb 2011 03:11:08 GMT
Hello: Just a quick note about an open source project named 'Testtract'
which may be useful for large-scale JMeter testing.

Project page:

Testtract is a command-line utility at heart and requires a UNIX-type
environment to run (e.g. Cygwin on MS Windows, Linux).

It is particularly useful in conveniently sidestepping Java memory
constraints to run multiple JMeter testcases simultaneously (or even run
multiple instances of a testcase). I've run 20+ testcases (with more than
20000 concurrent threads) from a standard PC with 3 GB RAM.

Some sample commands are below.

# 1. Run the 'MyWebsite' testcase against the development system

./metatest -t MyWebsite.jmx -s dev

# 2. Run the same testcase against UAT

./metatest -t MyWebsite.jmx -s uat

# 3. Run the same testcase on UAT system in load mode

./metatest -t MyWebsite.jmx -s uat -l load

# 4. Run three UAT testcases simultaneously (Note '-p' flag) in own process

./metatest -t "MyWebsite.jmx Test2.jmx Test3.jmx" -s uat -p

# 5. Edit three testcases (Note '-t' flag changed to '-e')

./metatest -e "MyWebsite.jmx Test2.jmx Test3.jmx" -s uat -p

# 6. Run three 'clones' of one testcase process against UAT

./metatest -t MyWebsite.jmx -s uat -clone 3

# 7. More help...

./metatest -h
<metatest/doc/test-creation/Creating Metatest Test Scripts.doc>
