Hello,

In last version of Ubuntu 9.10 (karmic koala), it has a new package 
"jmeter" which install JMeter and some requirements like a good JVM (sun).

http://packages.ubuntu.com/search?keywords=jmeter&searchon=names&suite=karmic&section=all

You launch JMeter from the Start Menu.
