I am a newbie, I tried
<binaryData><![CDATA[vars.getObject("byteString")]]></binaryData>

also tried vars.getObject("byteString") in Request - Pre processor bean
shell, it doesnt work :(

also the jmeter.log has NUL NUL sometimes.
