Almost there - you need to add the -r flag:

      -r, --runremote
              Start remote servers from non-gui mode

This help is displayed if you type:

        jmeter -?

However, if you are only running a single remote server, why not just
run that in non-GUI, and avoid the extra overhead of client-server
mode?
