Subject RE: Memory Leak in ELEvaluator (cont'd...)
Date Fri, 18 Feb 2005 21:35:05 GMT
Hi Dhiru,

Sorry for not replying earlier; I was sick.
It is not used anymore? I thought the JSTL expression language
and the JSP expression language were two different languages; if so, how
could the JSTL delegate evaluation to the JSP?
No, I have not tried with JSTL 1.1; we are still using my hacked
version of 1.0.6. Is a migration to 1.1 a big change? Where can I get a
changelog for the JSTL to help in my estimation of how much work this
would be?
As for the test case; I just have dozens of JSPs with statements
like this; <c:if test="${whatever}">...</c:if>. The specific test I used
to measure the leak was with our proprietary code that I cannot provide
to people outside the company I work for (sorry...). I can retest any
fixes and post my results, if it helps.
However, a simple memory profile of any JSP with JSTL tags will
show the leak, and the reasoning is very simple. Items are added to a
collection and never removed; fix that and the leak is gone. I have done
it locally, but in a Java 1.3-incompatible fashion.

Sincerely,

	Daryl.

Daryl,

Its my understanding that JSTL 1.1 (and onward) do not use the
ELEvaluator from JSTL code. Instead JSTL delegates that to JSP.

Have you tried this with JSTL 1.1 ?

Thanks,
-Dhiru

P.S: I am new to JSP and JSTL. It would help if you could send/or attach
a test case to the bug that I can try.
