The 2.x release branches will remain maintained for the time being. The current plan is to cut one more patch release for 1.6.x. That release will still go to http://jackrabbit.apache.org/ for a few months, after which the 1.x releases will only be available from the release archive for historical purposes. If you are still using Jackrabbit 1.x, I would strongly recommend that you start planning for the upgrade to 2.x, preferably to the latest 2.2.x releases.
