same error when I change the path...

Got one step further:

when I force the loading of EmbeddedDriver:
...
org.apache.derby.jdbc.EmbeddedDriver driver =
(EmbeddedDriver) Class.forName("org.apache.derby.jdbc.EmbeddedDriver").newInstance();
...
I get a FileNotFoundException, unfortunately the missing file is not mentioned:
