Hi Michael,

it is indeed possible, but it is a rather hidden feature. even if you select 
rep:excerpt(.) in your statement, you can still retrieve excerpts from 
properties on a returned node using:

Row row = ...
String contentExcerpt = row.getValue("rep:excerpt(Content)");
