Tests with svn trunk with same confitions:

1.  "/jcr:root/myContent/en/topics//*/my:topic" - 5 seconds. (was more then 100)
2.  "//topics/*/my:topic"  -  4.5 seconds  (was 12)
3.  "//element(my:topic)"  - 4.3 seconds. (was 12)

Results are significantly better but not good enough. It will ba about 2 seconds on some dual-core
server but
with 10 requests per second any server vill die. Caching of query results on application level
looks terrible for me... 

Good news - debugger "sits" in  QueryResult qr = q.execute(); for few secons, not minutes.
I think some more profiling of query execution need.
