If it helps any, the originating exception is from

SharedItemStateManager
public NodeReferences getNodeReferences(NodeReferencesId id) throws 
NoSuchItemStateException, ItemStateException {



here at the end of the method

// throw

throw new NoSuchItemStateException(id.toString());

}
