Such a feature should be quite easy to implement with the current file
system abstraction and especially the future data store mechanism.
Such an implementation would be totally transparent to the client,
i.e. files would automatically be compressed/encrypted during save and
decompressed/decrypted during retrieval.

Then again, using a compressed/encrypted file system on the OS level
would probably serve the same purpose in a more optimized and failsafe
