Subject Repository-enabled compression - discussion thread
Date Wed, 30 Aug 2006 15:24:01 GMT
Hey all,
Opening a discussion thread first before posting enhancement request on

What are peoples thoughts related to configuring an explicit enabling of
compression on stored objects? For instance, if the repository as 2
million documents and they are mostly large TXT, DOC, RTF objects.

*Allow compression on the repository level (based on configurable size
considerations, such as if file is > 5k and is of TXT/DOC/RTF mimetype),
but the repository is responsible for un-compressing the object on
request. If using WebDAV or other HTTP-supported protocol, allow
straight-pass as a compressed gzip stream (assuming gzip for compression
and again configuration support-compressed-stream). All metadata/info
is based on the uncompressed version of the file (size and mime-type
specifically, but maybe add another metadata field for compressed size).

Some of this may already be available or discussed, but I can't seem to
find it.

Thanks, open for comments!
