Yes, it's normal. This should no longer be required in the 1.0.1
release that will probably be out in a few days. 1.0.1 contains a fix
(or an improvement really) that uses the default namespace mappings
found in the persistent namespace registry unless the node type
declaration file declares custom mappings. See JCR-383 for the

Another node type registration improvement that is scheduled for the
1.1 release later in the summer is JCR-349 that will automatically
register new custom namespaces found in the node type declaration
files. Thanks to David Kennedy for contributing this improvement.
