Subject [jira] [Commented] (OAK-7744) Persistent cache for the Segment Node Store
Date Tue, 11 Sep 2018 12:01:00 GMT

Michael Dürig commented on OAK-7744:

Patch looks good so far apart from a couple of loose ends.

On a more general note though I wonder whether we are decided to add this feature? If we do,
we will have to maintain it, keep backwards compatibility, document it and extend test coverage
to ITs and edge cases. We need to add monitoring, configurability, understand resilience aspects

I'm ok with the patch if you are convinced of the value of this feature. I would prefer to
see this quantified through some performance test though.

> With the introduction of custom, remote persistence mechanisms for the SegmentMK (namely
the Azure Segment Store), it makes sense to create another level of cache, apart from the
on-heap segment cache which is currently used.
> Let's implement the persistent cache, using the existing {{TarFiles}} class and storing
the processed segments on disk. It may be created as a pass-through {{SegmentNodeStorePersistence}}
implementation, so it can be composed with other existing persistence implementations, eg.
[split persistence|OAK-7735].
