Wouldn't this be implementable as follows:

SELECT * FROM [nt:base] AS blah WHERE " +
       "ISDESCENDANTNODE(blah, '/a/b/c/d') OR " +
       "ISDESCENDANTNODE(blah, '/a/e/f')", Query.JCR_SQL2);
