I cannot imagine this is true, since the method is an interface method, the VM has to look it up anyways IIRC and AFAICT. Anyway, the performance gain will be close to NIL .... So performance is IMHO not an argument here. The point is whether it is important for the operation to have a "Hash" map or a Map which happens to be hashed....
