it's not about null value keys, it's about empty string keys. namespace mappings are maintained
in a HashMap (prefix->uri). 

please see the JCR 1.0 specification, 4.5 Namespaces.  JCR has a notion of a default namespace
(emtpy uri), which is 
referenced through the empty prefix ("").
