i put the jackrabbit, jackrabbit-commons, and jsr170 jars in 
shared/lib, and everything works perfectly, including 
shutdown. it took a long, long time to figure this out 
though. there are multiple issues in jira discussing it from 
various angles, but i don't recall any of the numbers.
