I think the position() function in XPath is the "official" way of
achieving this effect. Something like

    //*[position() < 100]

or

    //*[position() >= 100 and position() < 200]

Currently Jackrabbit only supports the equality comparisons for the
position() function. Should a Jira issue be posted for this?
