Subject Re: [PATCH] log4j to commons-logging conversion
Date Wed, 02 Mar 2005 10:24:43 GMT
Hi all,

[Stirring up the religious subject a bit more...]

A recent thread [1] on the Jetty mailing list discussed the logging
issue and ended favoring the UGLI approach over commons-logging. Of
course the logging requirements of Jetty differ from those of
Jackrabbit, but many of the raised points still apply.

Based on the discussion and Ceki's reasoning, I'm inclined to think that
UGLI might be a good choice for Jackrabbit.

However, as log4j 1.3 (that has built-in support for UGLI) is still in
alpha and as there is no immediate pressure for logging API independency
(few existing Jackrabbit-based apps), I'd propose putting the issue on
hold until log4j 1.3 is released.

BR,

Jukka Zitting
