Thanks for the offer but no need. It was only if jena-vm2 was going to go away to become jena-vm.

I have changed the DNS CNAME redirects to jena-vm2 and they work.

I tried to sudo to reboot and got:

    andy@jena-vm2:~$ sudo ls
    sudo: PAM authentication error: User not known to the underlying authentication module

What's the sudo setup for this machine? "id" says I'm in  group jena-vm2.apache.org-sudoers.
