Subject [jira] [Commented] (INFRA-18362) Move Current DataSketches Repos to new Apache Repos

Lee Rhodes commented on INFRA-18362:

I'm not sure about Jenkins, but our web-source would have to be processed by Jekyll to convert
the markdown to html before it could be copied to a web server.

I also notice that the apache/incubator-druid-website repository has only one branch, asf-site,
where, except for one file, all the content is already converted to html. Where is the markdown
source for this repo?

Our DataSketches/DataSketches.github.io repository has a single branch, master, which contains
all the source markdown code. When we commit changes to the master branch, GitHub automagically
runs Jekyll and loads the resulting html into the _site directory, which is used by the GitHub
web server.

It is important that we be able to run effectively in a similar way so that all of our documentation
content can be created in markdown.

It is unclear to me where / how the markdown gets converted to html.

"I can rename the existing repository to include incubator or you can create a new repository
and I can reconfigure gitpubsub to use that, just let me know which you prefer." --- This
makes no sense. All of our Apache repos have to have "incubator" in the name as that is a
requirement of Apache until we graduate. Correct?

> PLEASE LET US KNOW WHEN THIS IS GOING TO HAPPEN SO THAT WE CAN PAUSE OUR COMMITS!!!!
> From github.com/datasketches please move the following repos
> sketches-core --> datasketches-java
> memory -> datasketches-memory
> characterization -> datasketches-characterization
> sketches-pig -> datasketches-pig
> sketches-hive -> datasketches-hive
> sketches-postgres -> datasketches-postgresql

> We also will want to move the website, but we need someone to make sure that the website
will transfer correctly. WE CANNOT AFFORD TO HAVE THE WEBSITE DOWN! If you are confident
the website can be transferred ok, then the relevant repos are:

> I (Lee Rhodes) will be on vacation starting May 18, returning June 10. If you need admin
access to DataSketches.GitHub.io to move the above repos, please contact Alex (alsay@apache.org)
and he should be able to help you.
> Also, Kenneth Knowles is our Mentor (kenn@apache.org) if you need to contact him.
