The error "Can't open markdown socket" to me looks like the markdown deamon is down.

I recall issues like this from OpenOffice.org years ago. See https://openoffice.apache.org/website-local.html#python-markdown-daemon

Python 2.7 is likely required .... I don't know if this is it, but ...
