Gary Gregory edited comment on INFRA-18179 at 4/15/19 12:29 PM:
----------------------------------------------------------------

I'm finding using svn2git quite challenging.
I am using this guide: https://www.troyhunt.com/migrating-from-subversion-to-git-with/
Is there a different app I should use?

I tried with what should be the simplest repo "pmc".

svn2git https://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/xalan/pmc --username ggregory --authors "C:\temp\authors.txt"
--no-minimize-url --trunk /

This fails after a few hours with:
...
Checked through r1169400
Running command: git branch -l --no-color
Running command: git branch -r --no-color
Running command: git config --local --get user.name
Running command: git config --local --get user.email
Running command: git checkout -f master
error: pathspec 'master' did not match any file(s) known to git
command failed:
git checkout -f master

I used "--trunk /" as documented on SO, an entry I can no longer find. I'll try again with
--notags --nobranches --notrunk ...
This command is now in progress...
And failed ~1/3 of the way through:
----
Checked through r500700
Checked through 1 [main] perl 26188 cygwin_exception::open_stackdumpfile: Dumping stack
trace to perl.exe.stackdump
r500800
1 [main] perl 26188 cygwin_exception::open_stackdumpfile: Dumping stack trace to perl.exe.stackdump
command failed:
git checkout -f master
----
What I does not look like is when I tried the following command for the "c" folder:

C:\git\xalan-c>svn2git https://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/xalan/c --username ggregory --authors
"C:\temp\authors.txt"
Initialized empty Git repository in C:/git/xalan-c/.git/
Using higher level of URL: https://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/xalan/c => https://svn.apache.org/repos/asf

So I killed it since I do not want the whole ASF folder!

Thoughts?
