Sebb commented on INFRA-18017:
------------------------------

Also, the rsync password is currently only available to root, however the rsync needs to run
as modmbox.
Maybe change the file group to be modmbox and give it read-access?

> The scripts that create the mod_mbox archives on mail-archive and mail-private assume
that the mboxes are sourced from minotaur, and make other assumptions about directory layout
and file names.
> The public mail archive scripts in particular are complicated and fragile.
> The directory layout currently has to be changed from minotaur, e.g.
> RAW/httpd.a.o/dev becomes MBOX/httpd-dev
> and
> RAW/www.apache.org/xyz becomes MBOX/www-xyz
> empire-db probably needs special handling.
> The private mail archive scripts are not as complicated because the layout is identical
to minotaur. They also handle updates of historical mboxes better.
> However whatever replaces minotaur won't necessarily have the same layout.
> Note that changing the mbox layout on the boxes would break all Permalinks unless lots
of redirects were put in place. It would also require reworking the permission schemes on
the private archive box
