Maybe I misunderstand a thing here but travis supports env variables https://docs.travis-ci.com/user/environment-variables/

> The Apache Flink project would like to inquire about the viability of daily cron jobs
for CI purposes.
> We currently use Travis CI and have a build matrix for testing against different hadoop/java/scala
versions.
> We would like to cut this matrix down to a single configuration and test the remaining
configurations in daily run jobs to cut down on our Travis usage. (~40%)
> However, we do not know what options exist for implementing this and would appreciate
any guidance that INFRA can offer.
> Travis does appear support cron jobs, but the configuration looks rather limited as you
cannot provide separate travis.yml or environment variables.
