Subject [jira] [Created] (INFRA-16000) Maven download statistics for Apache projects not available any longer?
Date Wed, 07 Feb 2018 14:58:00 GMT
Michael Noll created INFRA-16000:
------------------------------------

Summary: Maven download statistics for Apache projects not available any longer?
                 Key: INFRA-16000
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/INFRA-16000
             Project: Infrastructure
          Issue Type: Bug
          Components: Other/Misc
         Environment: https://repository.apache.org/
            Reporter: Michael Noll

Note: This ticket is not specific to the Apache Kafka project. It's very likely that every
ASF project that releases Maven artifacts should be affected, but the impact is download stats/reports
= information/intel (the actual releases, for example, are not impacted).

Since quite some time we have access to download statistics for Maven artifacts of Apache
projects:
https://blog.sonatype.com/2010/12/now-available-central-download-statistics-for-oss-projects/
http://central.sonatype.org/articles/2014/Apr/29/update-on-central-stats/

These Maven statistics could be accessed via https://repository.apache.org/#central-stat.
This feature was still available in December 2017 (at least), but when I checked today (Feb
05, 2018) it was gone.

Is this a bug, or was the removal of the statistics intentional? These stats have been very
useful, so it would be really a shame if they weren't available any longer.

For the record I filed a ticket at Sonatype first (https://issues.sonatype.org/browse/MVNCENTRAL-3114),
and here's their response:

There's a plugin that provides the Central statistics, and if the link is no longer available,
it's possible that the plugin was uninstalled or, perhaps, not reinstalled after a Nexus upgrade.
This JIRA is meant for issues related to the contents of Maven Central. Given that you're
asking about the statistics hosted on repository.apache.org, you should probably raise this
issue on the Apache INFRA JIRA.
